Those who live in Florida know that it is one of the primary habitats of the
creature known as the snowbird. Snowbirds are not creatures of flight, but they
nonetheless follow migratory patterns. Every year they leave behind their nests
on pieces of Leslieville real estate and head on south in order to escape the
oncoming winter.
Snowbird, of course, refers to people from Northern areas who come down south
to Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California for the winter. Interestingly, there
is actually no avian species known as the snowbird; it is a totally fictional
concept.
For the most part, the snowbird population consists of Canadians and citizens
from northern and Midwestern states. Typically, snowbirds stay at the same longitude
as their hometowns; those from the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta
will go to California and Arizona, while those from New York or Newmarket real estate addresses will head to Florida.
There are several different types of snowbirds. Some will do their travelling
strictly in Recreational Vehicles (RVs), staying at campsites designated for
them all winter long. Others own pieces of Whitby real estate or homes in other
towns in the north, and buy vacation properties down south for seasonal use.
Usually snowbirds are retired and have the means to afford their annual trips
back and forth over the continent.
It is a fact, however, that no matter how much money one has, you can always
use more. That is why being a better snowbird means looking to see how much
money you can save on your annual trips, particularly where real estate is concerned.
One of the smartest things to do is sell a larger home up north in favor of
a smaller one before buying a second home in Fort Lauderdale. Downgrading in
the current economy is an incredibly good idea for the retiree; putting a house
for sale in Barrie will often mean you have the ability to purchase or rent
St. Lawrence Market condos for the summer to be close to your family, and still
afford a comfortable vacation spot in Fort Lauderdale for the winter months.
Many snowbirds are reluctant to put up their Ajax homes for sale or otherwise, at first. Typically these are homes they have lived in for years,
often raising families, and there are lots of memories within the walls. However,
a look at the real estate market in Fort Lauderdale and other Florida cities
can be quite convincing. The current recession and housing crash has resulted
in incredibly cheap prices; often a sale in Canada can result in an ability
to buy a Fort Lauderdale residence of similar size, with a significant portion
of money left over!
Being a better snowbird means making the most out of the travelling options
you have, and that includes the financial end. Why not have two designated nesting
sites for the winter and the summer, and some money left over as well?
